The Department of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies of University of Macedonia in the academic year 2014-2015 organizes and runs the Graduate Program entitled “History, Anthropology and Culture in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe (“MSc in History, Anthropology and Culture in Eastern and South-Eastern Europe”)» (FΕΚ τ.Β΄ 1931/17-07-2014)

Aim

The main purpose of the Graduate Program is:

  1. Provides specialized capabilities in the areas studies in SE and Eastern Europe from the perspective of history, anthropology and the study of culture (art, literature, cultural heritage management).
  2. Highlights the importance of openness to exercise cultural criticism within and outside Greek borders with the mission to promote tolerance towards the Other.
  3. Promotes specialization in the sciences of History and Social Anthropology with reference to the cultural characteristics on the area studies covering Eastern and Southeastern Europe, preparing interested students to continue their specialization in doctoral studies.
  4. Promotes training and skills addressed in future and/or already working for a) of international organizations and NGOs, b) managers of public or private sector, c) Social Cooperatives and Business executives working in the fields of education, tourism and management of cultural products.

Courses

The program is completed in two stages, the  stage of teaching of courses (three semesters) and the stage of authoring of the master thesis. The courses are divided into mandatory (5), mandatory choice (2) and free choices (4), are spread over the first three semesters of the program.

The Master Degree is awarded if the students successfully complete the process of examination in eleven (11) courses and the master thesis is judged as adequate.
